Breast Surgeons

The surgeon on your care team specializes in surgical treatment for breast cancer, such as lumpectomy, mastectomy, sentinel lymph node biopsy and other procedures. Your surgeon works closely with the medical and radiation oncologists, diagnostic radiologists, and other team members to coordinate and optimize your treatment.

Medical Oncologists

Your medical oncologist is a physician who specializes in medical treatment approaches, such as chemotherapy, targeted therapy or immunotherapy, for breast cancer. This physician evaluates which drugs or combination of drugs are best for you, determines how to deliver them safely and manages any side effects.

Radiation Oncologists

A radiation oncologist is a physician who specializes in radiotherapy approaches to fight cancer. At Roswell Park, our breast radiation oncologists use special techniques, such as prone positioning, to precisely deliver radiation only to necessary areas and protect organs such as the heart.

Diagnostic Radiologists

A diagnostic radiologist is a physician who specializes in diagnosing disease using medical imaging technology, such as mammography, CT and MRI scans. This physician uses imaging to detect breast cancer and guide biopsy procedures.

A pathologist is the physician who analyzes your tissue samples from a biopsy, fine needle aspiration, tumors, lymph nodes and other areas and performs laboratory tests to diagnose cancer and provide information your care team needs to determine the very best treatment options for you. At Roswell Park, your samples are analyzed by pathologists who focus specifically on breast cancers.

Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons

This surgeon specializes in advanced techniques and microsurgery to restore appearance and reconstruct breast tissue after cancer treatment. Our plastic & reconstructive surgeons will coordinate with your care team to plan your reconstruction around your cancer treatments for optimal healing and outcome.

Advanced Practice Providers

An advanced practice provider (APP) is a medical professional such as a physician assistant or nurse practitioner. APPs work in all areas of the hospital and play an important role in the development and implementation of your treatment plan. They perform examinations, order tests, interpret data and prescribe medication.
