A name you can trust
We know having cancer can feel overwhelming. At Roswell Park, we focus entirely on cancer, and provide the expertise and specialization you need to make the best decisions. We help you understand your particular type of cancer and the treatment options — including some available only at Roswell Park — that give you the best chance for a cure.
Learn more about the Roswell Park difference below — and why it matters that you choose a center like Roswell Park for your care.
Our experience matters
Roswell Park physicians have experience successfully treating a high number of patients with specific types of cancer. They have dedicated their careers to studying and understanding specific cancers; they have more experience than doctors who see a small number of cancer patients each year and who don’t specialize in one cancer type. Research shows more experience translates into better patient outcomes. Don’t be afraid to ask your Roswell Park physician about his/her complication rates and readmission rates. You have a right to know.
Cancer is our only focus
Founded in 1898, Roswell Park was the world’s first healthcare center to focus exclusively on cancer. As our patient, you will receive care at disease-specific clinical centers in state-of-the-art facilities. Our multidisciplinary teams of experts — all board-certified surgical, medical and radiation oncologists — will collaborate to ensure your treatment considers all options, follows evidence-based best practices, offers optimal coordination and includes compassion and respect.Request your appointment
The most advanced treatments
There often are many options available for your cancer and even the sequence of your treatments matters. Perhaps surgery doesn’t offer you the best chance of survival or you should have chemotherapy before surgery. You deserve to know all your treatment options and have access to each one. Roswell Park is home to one of the largest early-phase clinical trials programs in New York State, with the latest promising therapies for all types and stages of cancer. Our patients were some of the first to benefit from Herceptin (breast cancer), Gleevec (leukemia), Yervoy (melanoma) and many other treatments now FDA-approved. We also offer all treatment modalities — surgery, radiation and chemotherapy — under one roof.
Leading in immunotherapy
Our Division of Translational Immuno-Oncology is a national leader in developing new treatments that help a patient’s immune system fight cancer. We offer cancer vaccines, adoptive T-cell transfer, oncolytic viral therapy, checkpoint blockades, monoclonal antibodies, cytokines and combination therapies. We engineered the world’s first two-gene combination for adoptive T-cell therapy. We also created the brain-cancer vaccine SurVaxM and the NYESO-1 vaccine for late-stage ovarian cancer and other types of solid tumors. We’re the only center in the U.S. offering a clinical trial of the Cuban CIMAvax lung-cancer immunotherapy. Our immunotherapy team also is skilled in identifying and managing side effects of immunotherapies.
True comprehensive cancer care from a whole team
What does the phrase “comprehensive cancer care” mean? For Roswell Park, designated by the federal government as a comprehensive cancer center, it means we conduct research with a cancer focus and develop new therapies that improve cancer survival rates. We offer the latest therapies for your particular type of cancer before they are available elsewhere. And it means we help those at high risk for cancer, through screening and other preventative tools, minimize the possibility of getting the disease.
Comprehensive cancer care means taking care of the whole person — mind, body and spirit — throughout your treatment and during survivorship. We provide a full menu of services — all in one location — for diagnosing and treating cancer and helping survivors live healthy lives after treatment has ended.
Some of our programs include
- Rehabilitation therapy
- Lymphedema care
- Dental care and maxillofacial prosthetics
- Palliative care
- Pain management
- Psychological support
- Clinical genetics counseling
- Nutrition assistance
You may also take advantage of such complementary therapies as massage, acupuncture, reiki and aromatherapy. Your team of specialists — pathology, diagnostic radiology, medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology, pharmacy, nursing, pain management, symptom management and supportive care — works together for you on a daily basis.
Among the elite
As a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), Roswell Park is part of an elite group of cancer centers that continually review the latest medical literature to raise the standard of cancer care. We routinely measure and document a multitude of quality indicators, including survival outcomes, readmission and infection rates, wound-healing statistics and other metrics. We benchmark our data against national colleagues and routinely publish these outcomes for all to see. This level of transparency is unrivaled in the region. Our physicians are members of several NCCN panels that determine best practices for clinical care and write treatment guidelines used around the globe.
Designed to de-stress
Atmosphere makes a big difference for cancer patients, whose diagnoses can cause intense stress. At Roswell Park, we’ve designed beautiful, uplifting spaces to help you relax. We offer a rich collection of artworks throughout our facilities. Musicians and singers perform daily in the hospital lobby. Our outdoor park is open during the warmer months. Therapy dogs occasionally stop by public areas in the hospital and Clinical Sciences Center for one-on-one attention. The Marie, Maria and Michael Bogner, Sr. Patient Terrace, an open-air space for meditation, contemplation and conversation, provides respite for patients, families and staff. The Creative Arts Team invite patients and visitors to nurture their creativity through painting and other visual arts. It’s all part of how we take care of both body and spirit
