When to call
Please call anytime acute leukemia is a concern. Call the hotline if your patient exhibits:
- Abnormally high WBC (>20-30K; please note WBC >100K could be a medical emergency)
- Any WBC with reported presence of peripheral blasts (sometimes called unclassified cells)
- Severe pancytopenia (WBC <1-2, hgb <8, plts <50K)
- Fatigue
- Weakness
- Dizziness, lightheadedness
- Shortness of breath
- Fever
- Recurrent or persistent infection
- Recurrent or persistent bleeding, such as nosebleeds or bleeding gums
- Bruising
- Weight loss
- Loss of appetite
- Abdominal swelling
