The Applied Technology Laboratory for Advanced Surgery (ATLAS) program at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center began in 1997 as a safety and quality assurance initiative. Since then, it has become so much more, now providing training to surgeons from around the world on robot-assisted procedures, functioning as an innovation hub for Roswell Park and allowing patients to receive state-of-the-art care with less-invasive methods through dozens of clinical research studies.
Training & Education
Roswell Park’s ATLAS program is the only Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) testing center in New York State to offer all three fundamental exams, in addition to the exclusive Fundamental Skills of Robotic Surgery (FSRS) program.

ATLAS Studios, a shared resource within the program, is a team of three medical illustrators, offering images, animations and 3D renderings to enhance the work of doctors here and around the country.
Groundbreaking research starts here
We offer virtual and hands-on training in state-of-the-art robotic surgery techniques that represent a learning experience unlike any other.
ATLAS also hosts opportunities for artistic exploration and research through a partnership with the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, along with several multidisciplinary internships for students, from high school through graduate school.
