BUFFALO, N.Y. — Coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, the community around Buffalo — the City of Good Neighbors — was challenged in ways hard to fathom. Through some of the darkest hours, moments of love, acceptance, unity and kindness emerged. The dedicated team at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center is sharing some of those moments through our third Community Annual Report.

Entitled “The Journey to Broaden Our Understanding: Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Our Community,” the report documents events, celebrations, community programs and a glimpse into life at Roswell Park throughout 212 pages.

“We are a place where people come to find strength and courage during a challenging period in their lives. We provide hope to our patients as we work to provide all the support they need to live a long and happy life with their loved ones. We rely on our community, our wonderfully diverse community of neighbors and friends, to help us achieve our goals and improve the lives of those around us,” says Candace S. Johnson, PhD, President, CEO and M&T Bank Presidential Chair in Leadership at Roswell Park.

Highlighted in the report:

  • More than $5.7 million was raised by 7,700 riders, supported by 1,500 volunteers, during our Ride for Roswell fundraiser in June, bringing back to full force our annual cycling event in ways not seen since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Dozens of community outreach events and our partnerships with organizations throughout Western New York to help provide information on cancer screening, risk factors, healthy habits and more
  • Roswell Park’s participation in parades, festivals, cultural commemorations and other events across the Buffalo area that celebrate the rich diversity of our community
  • A look ahead to some of the big things on the horizon in 2023, including a new cancer center in Amherst, the expansion of our Roswell Park Care Network and the construction of a Roswell Park Community Outreach and Engagement Center on Michigan Avenue
