Tops Friendly Markets and Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Buffalo Present $17,500 Gift in Support of Roswell Park Nutrition Program

BUFFALO, NY Representatives from Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Buffalo and Tops Friendly Markets presented a gift today of $17,500 to Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in support of a newly-expanded patient nutrition program. The funds were raised through the sale of 2-liter bottles of Coca-Cola products in Western New York from December 2011 through February 2012. Tops served as the retail partner on this initiative.

This gift supports a new nutrition program for Roswell Park’s patients called Room Service Dining. The hotel-style dining program gives patients a wider range of menu options and more flexibility in what they eat, and when, and is planned to support the specific nutritional needs of cancer patients.

The new Room Service Dining menu includes numerous breakfast, salad, deli and grill items; soups and side dishes; beverages and liquid items; desserts, many of which have no sugar added; and several low-fat, low-sodium dishes. Orders are placed by phone, made to order and delivered to patient rooms, and can be phoned in remotely by a patient’s loved ones. The dining program is available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for any patient admitted to Roswell Park, as well as caregivers accompanying or visiting inpatients. “Since the program’s launch, we’ve received positive feedback from both patients and their families,” said Christina Dibble, Director of Nutrition and Food Services at Roswell Park. “This program is just part of Roswell Park’s ongoing commitment to improving the lives of cancer patients and their families, and we could not have launched it without the support of our generous partner Coca-Cola and retail partner Tops Friendly Markets.”

Both Coca-Cola of Buffalo and Tops Markets are long-time supporters of Roswell Park. In addition to hosting the annual Tops 5K/10K with Team Cure Challenge, Tops steps up to donate food and beverage items to events including the Bosom Buddies Walk and All Star Night. Coca-Cola continues to provide generous in-kind donations of products for Roswell Park events, including The Ride For Roswell.
