Leaders Emerge In Two Clinical Areas at Roswell Park

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Two new leadership positions at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center are poised to continue our ongoing focus on complete, patient-centric clinical care. Brahm Segal, MD, Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine and Chief of Infectious Diseases at Roswell Park, has announced the promotion of Laura Mango, MD, and Paul DeJac, MD.

Laura Mango, MD, is named Medical Director of the Assessment and Treatment (ATC) Center. With Roswell Park since 2017, Dr. Mango has served as a consulting physician for the ATC, a service that supports current patients when they are sick with urgent, but not life-threatening symptoms 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

In her newly created role, Dr. Mango’s responsibilities include teaching and mentoring advanced practice providers in the department, enhancing patient care and experience, and focusing on maintaining strong relationships and communication with clinicians inside and outside of Roswell Park.

Prior to Roswell Park, Dr. Mango was a physician and supervisor in the immediate care unit at Buffalo General Hospital. She earned her medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine and completed residencies at the University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine.

Paul DeJac, MD, has been promoted to Chief of Hospitalist Medicine. In this new position, Dr. DeJac will assist in the growth and professional development of his team, implement initiatives to boost patient care, and lead the Hospitalist Medicine consult service. Additionally, he will partner with Dr. Segal and other faculty in research on quality initiatives to improve inpatient care.

Dr. DeJac joined Roswell Park in 2016 and was named Lead Hospitalist in 2017. He played an integral role in developing the ATC and his efforts helped it expand to 24/7 coverage over the last year. Dr. DeJac continues to serve on the Patient Safety Committee.

He previously worked in the University at Buffalo Department of Medicine, gaining valuable skills in level I trauma care, stroke treatment, and care of underserved populations.

Dr. DeJac holds his medical and bachelor’s degrees from the University at Buffalo.

“These are two very important clinical areas at our center,” said Dr. Segal. “I am confident Dr. Mango and Dr. DeJac will take charge in their respective leadership roles and continue to uphold Roswell Park’s high standards for the around-the-clock care of our patients through the ATC and hospital services.
