Former Health and Human Services Secretary Keynoting Scholarship Reception

Eva M. Noles Scholarship to be Awarded to Roswell Park Employee; Special Recognition for Cancer Health Disparities Staff

WHAT: Third Annual Eva M. Noles Recognition Program honoring the legacy of Eva M. Noles, RN, Director of Nursing at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center from 1971-74, Buffalo’s first African-American registered nurse.

Louis W. Sullivan, MD, Founding Dean and President Emeritus of Morehouse School of Medicine, who served as U.S. Secretary of Health & Human Services from 1989-93, will deliver the keynote address.

Toya LaMar, a Clinical Support Assistant in the Ambulatory Services Department at Roswell Park who is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Medaille College, will receive a $2,000 award as recipient of the second Eva M. Noles Scholarship, an annual educational award for Roswell Park employees from underrepresented groups.

This program will highlight the efforts of the Office of Cancer Health Disparities (OCHD) at Roswell Park, and will include special recognition for Deborah Erwin, PhD, Director, and Detric “Dee” Johnson, Senior Project Coordinator, both of the OCHD.

WHO: Dr. Sullivan, Ms. LaMar, Dr. Erwin, Ms. Johnson and Reggie Clark, Roswell Park’s Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion, will be available for interviews.
