Scholarship Gala Honors Two Roswell Park Professionals for “Taking Care of the Community”

The community service contributions of Wesley L. Hicks, Jr., MD, Chairman, Department of Head & Neck/Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and David Scott, Director, Office of Diversity & Inclusion were recognized by the Mary B. Talbert Civic and Cultural Club at the organization’s annual fundraising dinner for their reputation as innovators, visionaries and role models. This year’s event honored a total of nine health care professionals with the theme of “Taking Care of the Community.”

Dr. Hicks also serves as Professor of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery and Professor of Neurosurgery at UB School of Medicine. He is a member of the National Medical Association, National Dental Association, The American College of Surgeons and the Society of Black Academic Surgeons, among others. He was selected as one of the top 100 physicians in the nation by Black Enterprise Magazine and named to the Castle Connolly Medical Ltd.’s 2015 America’s Top Doctors.

During David Scott's leadership in 2014, 21% of all new hires were African American or Hispanic. He has also helped more than 200 minority high school and college students secure paid internships at Roswell Park. David serves the Buffalo community as chair of the Health Sciences Charter School Internship Advisory Board, secretary to the Evergreen Health Services Board of Directors and is a member of the UB Educational Opportunity Center Advisory Board.
