Roswell Park Invites Survivors to Share Their Stories Saturday, June 4

Everyone’s life is a story — a tale of challenges and triumphs, perseverance, hope and love. If you are a cancer survivor, you are invited to share your story and listen as others tell theirs during a special event Saturday, June 4, from 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. The event, “A Hero’s Journey,” will explore the power of storytelling in the healing process.

“This will be a day of exploration, reflection and story sharing for cancer survivors, their families and caregivers. This is a day that will be both playful and profound,” says Beth Lenegan, PhD, Director of Pastoral Care at Roswell Park.

The program will be led by Lani Peterson, PsyD, a psychologist and award-winning storyteller who helps people connect with each other through their personal stories, and Fran Yardley, a retreat director, storyteller, writer and workshop leader who focuses on healing through storytelling. Survivors will have the opportunity to connect with themselves and others through story-sharing activities while building community with those who have been on similar paths. They also will receive a customized journal to continue their life’s journey after the event.

Interested participants are encouraged to register by May 27 at RoswellPark.org/SurvivorsDay. A $10 registration fee will help to cover the cost of a continental breakfast and lunch. For financial assistance, please call 716-845-1671.

The program is sponsored by the Jayne and Phil Hubbell family.
