How did Roswell Park build it?

Dr. Johnson and other organizational leaders developed a clear set of strategic objectives and project ideas for Roswell Park to focus on during the next five years.

Roswell Park aims to enhance accessibility to high quality, cutting-edge treatments and technology, all while keeping patient needs, preferences, and values at the forefront of our decision making.

  1. Design a patient journey that creates a consistent experience across inpatient, outpatient, virtual, and home care settings to provide the highest quality of care.
  2. Provide safe high quality, evidence-based care promoting autonomous nursing practice, and using quality data to drive outcomes.
  3. Modernize our information technology infrastructure and care processes to meet the future needs of our clinicians, patients and community.

Roswell Park will implement groundbreaking team science initiatives to prioritize basic, clinical, behavioral, epidemiological and translational research through innovative technologies, advanced diagnostics and cellular therapies.

  1. Create an optimal environment for researchers, physician-scientists, and fellows by enhancing shared services, industry collaboration, and MD/Scientist partnerships — making Roswell the premier hub for breakthrough cancer discoveries.
  2. Establish a destination for cell therapy, immunotherapy, and novel therapeutics to develop the next generation of cancer therapies. 
  3. Develop a Nursing Research Department within the cancer center to accelerate transdisciplinary translational research. 

Roswell Park will work with community partners to eliminate cancer’s burden through prevention, early detection, effective treatment, and survivorship with specific focus on the needs of our region. 

  1. Lead regional and state-wide coalitions of coordinated outreach initiatives, disseminate education and resources, and advocate policies to accelerate community participation in evidence-based cancer control interventions. 
  2. Support nursing’s role in community-based programs focused on prevention, early detection, and inclusion in clinical trials.

Roswell Park will prioritize education, mentoring, and support of clinicians, researchers, trainees, and healthcare professionals in cancer care and discovery.

  1. Integrate and coordinate all cancer-related educational programs and activities across Roswell Park.
  2. Empower faculty, trainees and staff through education, mentoring and learning opportunities.
  3. Foster a supportive and sustainable work environment at Roswell Park by prioritizing employee well-being, professional growth, and work-life balance.

Roswell Park will implement employee advocacy and fairness best practices across cancer center operations to support sustainable cultural transformation.

  1. Cultivate an environment of transparency, accountability, and psychological safety where employees feel empowered to speak up, learn from mistakes, and contribute to continuous improvement, ensuring that decisions are made equitably and based on integrity.

Roswell Park will continually improve highly reliable operational and clinical processes. 

  1. With an overarching goal of achieving zero preventable harm, maintain an operational improvement infrastructure to enhance Roswell Park's performance in key clinical, business, and research domains.
  2. Ensure financial sustainability through grant funding, resource optimization, and philanthropy.
  3. Actively support initiatives above and beyond healthcare services to enhance the communities we serve.
