Urology Operative Experience

Operative experience encompasses all areas of urologic oncology. A feel for the operative experience can be gleaned from tabulating the three most commonly performed procedures: radical prostatectomy, radical cystectomy, and radical/partial nephrectomy.  Each clinical Fellow can expect to perform about 1/2 of these cases.

The department and three attendings performed approximately one hundred of these index cases annually before Dr. Mohler became Chair and committed the department to minimally invasive surgery and National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Guideline compliant care.

The department’s surgical volumes have increased more than three‐fold. Clinical descriptors including operative performance and outcomes are gathered real‐time and populate prospectively three departmental databases. These databases assure quality and provide opportunities for publication.
