We Focus Exclusively on Spinal Tumors

US News Best Hospitals 2021 - 2022

Roswell Park’s Spinal Oncology Center is one of few centers in the nation that’s dedicated exclusively to the treatment of patients with spinal tumors. We have the expertise you need, because we see and treat spinal tumors every day.

A Physician Who Helps Set the National Standards

Andrew Fabiano, MD, FAANS, Director of Roswell Park’s Spinal Oncology Center, helps write the national guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of central nervous system (CNS) cancers, including spinal tumors, as one of the experts on the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) CNS Cancers panel. In 2019 he was named a North American Spine Society 20 Under 40 Spine Surgeon based on his professional achievements, community service and philosophy of care.

The Assurance of Multidisciplinary Care

At Roswell Park, every case is reviewed by a team of specialists from different fields, including neurosurgery, neuro-oncology and neurology, neuroradiology, neuropathology and radiation medicine. The close working relationship among members of the medical team promotes better communication and coordination of care and ensures that your treatment plan will be considered carefully from every angle.

Clinical Genetics Service

Although we don’t know what causes most primary spinal cord tumors, people with certain rare, inherited genetic disorders may be at higher risk. These include neurofibromatosis, types 1 (NF1) and 2 (NF2); von Hippel Lindau-disease; Li-Fraumeni syndrome; and tuberous sclerosis. If you have been told you have one of these disorders or if you have a family history of cancer, please contact Roswell Park’s Clinical Genetics Service so we can arrange genetic screening and testing for you.

All the Services You’ll Need — In One Location

Most patients with spinal tumors need a combination of surgery and radiation, or surgery with radiation and chemotherapy. You’ll have a major advantage as you recover from surgery, because we provide specialized and supportive services — including physical therapy — in one convenient location, and everything can be arranged while you’re still in the hospital.
