Symptoms of Esophageal Cancer

Like many cancer types, esophageal cancer does not usually cause symptoms until it has reached an advanced stage. However, you should see your doctor if you experience any of the following:

  • Painful or difficulty swallowing
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Pain behind the breastbone
  • Hoarseness
  • Chronic cough
  • Vomiting
  • Indigestion and heartburn
  • Blood in your stool
  • Anemia

Many other conditions can also cause these symptoms, so it is important that you see your physician for a definitive diagnosis and resolution.
