The Donor Center at Roswell Park Cancer Institute was established in 1964. Founded by Dr. Elias Cohen, the Donor Center at Roswell Park is among the three oldest platelet collection facilities in the country. In addition to its long-standing history, the Donor Center is one of the few centers in the country that employs an all professional nursing staff. Several of our Donor Center nurses have been in blood and platelet collections for over 20 years.
With a professional nursing staff, donors can expect a high level of expertise, rigorous standards of care, and compassion and dignity with each donation. Donors are immediately put at ease when they are cared for and monitored by a professional nurse at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
There is a significant, ongoing need for blood and blood products at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Blood and platelets are needed on a regular basis to ensure an adequate supply for patients undergoing cancer treatments or surgery.
The need for blood and platelets at RPCI is enormous as these vital, life-saving blood components cannot be manufactured. Only dedicated, caring human beings can provide a Roswell Park patient with the gift of life. By making a donation at Roswell Park, you are making the all the difference in the world to a special person who needs you!
The Donor Center at Roswell Park Cancer Institute is dedicated to collecting adequate and safe blood products; respecting the value of each donor; and providing ongoing education for the patients and families whom we serve.
