If you’re a cancer patient, those magical moments can be interrupted by a hospital stay or times when you’re not feeling well. That’s why Roswell Park’s Spiritual Care Department created the Read to Me program.

Film has the power to transport us to another time and place. Movies can make us laugh, cry, scream and so much more. And, when dealing with a cancer diagnosis, “leaving” your current situation for even the briefest moment can provide a much-needed respite.

“When you’re an inpatient in the hospital, you’ve got a social worker visiting you every day, a discharge planner, a case manager. At home, some patients don’t have the kind of support they need. It becomes overwhelming, trying to navigate it all.”

2018 was an exciting year at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. We unveiled our new logo and mission statement and celebrated our 120th anniversary as a cancer center. 

The holiday season can be challenging for cancer patients. From the stress of cooking, shopping and entertaining, to the emotional toll of trying to find joy during a difficult time, it’s okay to acknowledge that holidays with cancer may not be the cheerful season you are used to.

Thanksgiving is the time when we try to be thankful for what we have, to enjoy the company of our friends and family over a nice meal, and for many of us, it's the official start to the holidays.
