The colors of fall aren’t just orange, red, brown and gold; pink is prominent in October as we acknowledge Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

For these college students, it was their first opportunity to take their education out of the classroom and get a feel for what a career in medicine and research might look like.

The month of September is dedicated to recognizing five different cancer types: prostate, pediatric, thyroid, gynecologic and blood cancers.

"Most men don’t realize that if your PSA number doubles from one year to the next, you’re in trouble. We want to express that to men, to take advantage of the situation and be educated.”

You could be considered at higher risk if you have a family history of certain cancers or if you have a known genetic mutation or abnormality associated with a predisposition for developing cancer, such as mutations to the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes.
