Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplantation

For our youngest patients, between ages 4 –18, Roswell Park offers blood and marrow transplantation (BMT) in the Pediatric Department.

We offer transplants for pediatric patients with the following diseases:

Dr. Beaupin with Patient

We team up with Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo to provide the very best care for our young transplant patients. Before, during and after the transplant, we work together to determine the best course of treatment for your child.

Steven Ambrusko with Patient

Our BMT Long-Term Survivorship Clinic helps your child stay healthy into the future by monitoring for long-term effects of the disease and treatment. The clinic team also points out any special concerns or issues you should address with your child’s primary care physician.

Lion's Den

Inpatients stay in our kid-friendly Pediatric Center where every room has an extra bed so a parent or other caregiver can stay overnight. Young patients can watch movies, play video games, or e-mail friends in the Lion’s Den activity room. Outpatients are treated in a dedicated area of the Pediatric Center that’s open 24/7.

Caregiver Support

If you are the child’s parent or guardian, you will probably serve as the primary caregiver. Our BMT Orientation and Caregiver Program helps prepare you for this critically important role by helping you understand the medical, physical, and emotional issues your child may face before, during, and after transplant.

Clinical Trials for Pediatric BMT Patients at RPCI

You may be offered the opportunity to enroll your child in a clinical research study (clinical trial) of a promising new treatment. Eligible pediatric BMT patients have access to investigator-initiated clinical trials as well as trials sponsored by:
