We know how having a child with cancer or a blood disorder is a challenging time for your whole family. Your family is our priority — we will help you through this.

Roswell Park Oishei Children’s is a unique program that brings together two elite institutions to offer patients world class pediatric care right here in Western New York. We will coordinate your child’s care to make sure the experience is seamless, from inpatient and outpatient treatments to ongoing survivorship care for life.

In addition to our internationally recognized pediatric oncologists and hematologists, we integrate the services from these pediatric specialists at both facilities:

How this works

In general, inpatient care, surgery, cellular therapies and bone marrow transplant take place at Oishei Children’s Hospital. Outpatient care, infusions, radiation therapy, radiosurgery and survivorship care take place at Roswell Park. Our facilities are located close together and connected by enclosed bridges to allow for easy travel from one to the other.

Inpatient care at Oishei Children's

The John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital is a premier stand-alone children’s hospital that offers:

  • Pediatric surgical suites designed especially for procedures with young patients.
  • Comfortable, kid-friendly patient rooms that are large enough for visitors with an extra sleep space for a parent or caregiver to stay the night. Rooms also have a dorm-size refrigerator, two TVs for both the patient and caregiver, and internet access for your child to enjoy, helping it feel more like home.
  • Environmental protection to provide the safest infrastructure for care of severely immune-compromised patients.
  • Family room with access to a full-size refrigerator/freezer to store your child's favorites, microwave, washer and dryer, bathroom with shower — and a freezer chest stocked with ice pops. 
  • Playroom with video game consoles, computers, air hockey and more.
  • Indoor garden/solarium for respite and enjoyment.

Outpatient care at Roswell Park

The Katherine, Anne and Donna Gioia Pediatric Hematology Oncology Outpatient Center is a state-of-the-art facility providing infusion services and patient exam areas in one convenient, kid-friendly center that offers:

  • Flexible infusion bays. When your child is receiving chemotherapy and transfusions, it’s his or her choice if they would like to interact and socialize that day. If so, your child can open the window and talk to the patient in the next bay. If your child isn’t feeling up to socializing that day, his or her window and curtain can be closed for quiet.
  • Comfortable, cozy infusion chairs with with heat and massage options.
  • Playroom with an interactive video wall, gaming systems, and dedicated play stations for younger children. A child life specialist will be on hand to help your child enjoy crafts, games and other therapeutic play activities.
  • Caregiver lounge where you can get a cup of coffee or a snack and chat with other caregivers. You can still keep an eye on your child while enjoying a bit of a break with other caregivers in the lounge.
