Nurses volunteering in the community

Our Commitment to Our Community

As Roswell Park nurses, we are part of the greater Buffalo community, and we seek to care for our neighbors outside of the hospital, too. Some of the efforts Roswell Park nurses have initiated or partnered with include:

  • Agents for Advocacy, which supplied backpacks and school supplies to the East Buffalo community affected by the shooting at the Tops grocery store in May 2022.
  • FeedMore WNY. The medical and patient care staff at Roswell Park collected and donated $11,000 to FeedMore WNY, which distributes food to food banks, partners with hunger relief agencies, provides home-delivered meals, and more.
  • The Buffalo Community Fridge. Founded by a Roswell Park nurse, a brightly painted refrigerator now sits on the sidewalk at the corner of Ferry and East Welker Streets in Buffalo. The appliance is stocked with free food for people of the community to take what they need and leave what they don’t. Inspired by a similar effort in New York City, The Buffalo Community Fridge aims to help eliminate food waste and food insecurity.
  • Thanksgiving Turkey Drive. Each November, Roswell Park collects frozen turkeys to deliver to the families of Public School #53.
  • Holiday Toy Drive. Throughout December, Roswell Park staff fill the giant sled located in the lobby with toys. This drive is so successful, the donations are shared with more than a dozen community centers and groups, as well as law enforcement agencies in support of broader initiatives.
  • Sleep In Heavenly Peace, Buffalo Chapter.  Roswell Park nurses volunteered their time and talent to build 20 beds for Buffalo children in need.
