Roswell Park Therapy Dogs Offer Canine TLC

When Roswell Park patients are in need of comfort and companionship, they can often find a furry friend by their sides.

Roswell Park’s Pet Therapy Program, which is funded in part by donations, brings certified therapy dogs and their volunteer owners to patients multiple times per week. Studies show that these four-legged volunteers can help improve wellbeing and morale by providing a calming presence.

Each owner of the pet therapy dogs graciously volunteers their time at Roswell Park. Sandra Szopinksi has been bringing her golden doodle, Rorie, to Roswell Park since she saw a segment on the news featuring the Institute's first-ever therapy dog, Monty. And Dave and Dobie Marowski drive four hours round trip to bring their beagle Sierra to Roswell Park. In total, 15 dogs and their volunteer owners take part in the program.
