The Bladder Book

View on

A Patient’s Guide to Bladder Cancer offers bladder cancer patients and their families easy-to-understand information on their disease and treatment options. It simplifies complex scientific concepts and follows the natural history and course of disease and treatment. Patients learn a better sense of their disease and their treatment options as a supplement to conversations with their care team.

Partners in the creation of this book are experts in each field involved in caring for bladder cancer patients: anesthesiology, medical oncology, nursing, physical therapy, psychology, nutrition and social work.

The book is filled with short, straightforward chapters and detailed illustrations to further explain and clarify the disease and treatment.

BCG (Bacillus Calmette-Guérin) App

The U.S. FDA has approved the use of Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG), a type of immunotherapy, for patients diagnosed with bladder cancer. This has been the recommended course of treatment for intermediate and high-risk cancer patients, but the treatment is also known to have a high toxicity. Recommendations for this course of treatment require compliance by the patient and dedication to follow-up appointments; as a result, it might not be the right treatment for all patients.

Helping patients better understand the requirements of BCG therapy can help reduce the risk of adverse effects and allow patients to become more involved and engaged in their care. We have developed an app to help provide information and resources on BGC therapy, available for Apple and Android phones.

Pelvic Rehab App

Patients undergoing treatment for bladder cancer need to keep track of their liquid intake and urination to provide this information during visits with their doctors. We encourage the use of the Pelvic Rehab App to make it easier to record this information and share it with your care team at each appointment.
