Eunice S. Wang, MD, Chief of Leukemia at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, led a research effort that supports the addition of gemtuzumab ozogamicin—a CD33-directed antibody-drug conjugate—to standard induction chemotherapy for the treatment of newly-diagnosed intermediate-risk cytogenetic acute myeloid leukemia (AML). A multi-institutional team led by researchers from Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center has identified a novel approach that could potentially improve the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors — a type of immunotherapy — among cancer patients with solid tumors. Findings from this preclinical study demonstrated that the differentiation agent brequinar effectively targeted myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) and significantly improved immune checkpoint inhibitor response.
