This Care Conversation is part of a monthly speaker series at Roswell Park.
Cancer is not an easy thing to cope with. It can shake you to your core, causing you to worry about the future and wonder about the past. While this is a normal reaction, staying “in the now” is important to your overall health and wellbeing.
“Mindfulness can help you live a more present and joyful life throughout your cancer journey, whether you are a patient or a caregiver,” says Julia Davis-Voss, who specializes in trauma sensitive yoga, meditation and ayurvedic yoga.
“I offer weekly Guided Relaxation Exercises at Roswell Park,” continues Davis-Voss. “During these one-on-one sessions, individuals often want to dive deeper into learning about various techniques that are easy to incorporate into their daily lives.”
To share her vast knowledge about using mindfulness as a helpful tool for minimizing feelings of anxiousness, improving concentration and settling into a more peaceful state of mind, Davis-Voss will present “Mindfulness Strategies for Stress Management,” at the next Care Conversation on Wednesday, September 25 from 12 - 1 p.m.
In her kind and compassionate way, Julia will introduce you to seated relaxation postures and techniques for all levels. She will also share how breath work can help you calm your mind and your body. Another topic that Julia will address is gentle movement for slowing down and being more fully present. Lastly, you will learn mindful meditation training tips.
Care Conversations is a monthly speaker series for Roswell Park patients and caregivers to support, encourage and educate. A 45-minute presentation is followed by a 15-minute Q&A session. The series occurs on the third Tuesday of every month, at 11 a.m., and takes place in The 11 Day Power Play Cancer Resource Center, which is located on the first floor of the main hospital next to the Tower Elevators.
