What is CAR T-cell therapy?

We’re entering a hopeful new era with the development of immunotherapies, which use the power of your own immune system to fight cancer.

Immunotherapies can produce long-term remissions and are generally associated with side effects that are milder than those caused by chemotherapy. They also have the potential to work even when chemotherapy and radiation have failed.

You may have heard about Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy, one of several types of immunotherapy available at Roswell Park. The video above explains how CAR T-cell therapy works.

We are also authorized to provide the CAR T-cell therapies Kymriah™ (tisagenlecleucel), Tecartus™ (brexucabtagene autoleucel) and Yescarta™ (axicabtagene ciloleucel), the only FDA-approved cellular therapies. We also offer clinical trials of other CAR T-cell therapies and advanced T-cell receptor (TCR) therapies developed right here to treat virtually any type of cancer.
