Meet #TeamRoswell: Dr. Gurkamal Chatta

I grew up in India, but I came to the U.S. to pursue a more advanced career in oncology and prostate cancer care. Most of my training took place in Seattle, Washington, but I was drawn to Roswell Park because of the Division of Translational Immuno-Oncology – it is one of the best in the country.

Since the 1970s Roswell Park has had a strong prostate cancer program. But in the last 15-20 years, there has been major progress in using vaccines and immunotherapies to treat cancer. Fortunately, Roswell Park is leading this effort.

As a medical oncologist, I understand the importance of working closely with other disciplines, such as radiation oncology and surgical oncology, to maximize outcomes for each patient. When all three disciplines work together, patients benefit greatly.

This is a time of unprecedented opportunity in cancer treatment. I am honored to be the Clinical Chief of Genitourinary Medicine at Roswell Park, and I believe there is so much to look forward to.
