Roswell Park-Baylor Research Identifies Crucial Enzyme Driving Breast Cancer

Looking to identify new strategies to prevent breast cancer recurrence, a research team led by Subhamoy Dasgupta, PhD, Assistant Professor of Oncology in the Department of Cell Stress Biology at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, has identified two key proteins involved in glucose metabolism that could be targeted to prevent breast cancer metastasis and recurrence. The team’s findings were published today in the journal Nature.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A scientist with more than 20 years of experience has been appointed as the new Chair of Molecular and Cellular Biology at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. Erik Knudsen, PhD, will also serve as the Co-Leader of the Cancer Center’s Genetics and Genomics Program.

Roswell Park Research on Survivin Opens Up New Avenues for Cancer Immunotherapy

New research from Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and MimiVax LLC shows that one of the most commonly occurring molecules in cancer cells may be an attractive target for a broad range of immunotherapy approaches, including CAR T, or chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy. The findings have been published online ahead of print in Clinical Cancer Research, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR).

Brain Network Interactions Can Measure Trust Levels Among Teams Performing Robot-Assisted Surgery

Trust can be measured using electroencephalography activity, according to a Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center research and surgical team led by Khurshid A. Guru, MD, Director of Robotic Surgery, Director of the Applied Technology Laboratory for Advanced Surgery (ATLAS) and Chair of the Department of Urology. Their method, which uses brain activity patterns to objectively assess the level of trust between mentor and trainee during robot-assisted surgery, was recently detailed in Scientific Reports.

Patrick P. Lee Gives $4 Million to Leading Organizations in Son’s Memory

Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and Canisius College announced today that Patrick P. Lee has made personal gifts to each organization totaling $4 million. Two million dollars will establish an endowed chair to support Roswell Park’s Palliative and Supportive Care program and $2 million will create a scholarship fund at Canisius College. The gifts were made in memory of Lee’s late son, Patrick “Pat” Warn Lee.
