Prior to his 61st birthday, during the summer of 2019, Doug Green started having trouble swallowing.

"Food was getting stuck going down. It wasn't stopping me from eating, but it forced me to chew my food a lot more," says Doug.

Surgery remains the primary treatment for early-stage lung cancer, and most commonly that means a procedure called lobectomy, which removes about one-third to one-half of the lung with the tumor. It’s the one treatment that offers patients with lung cancer their best option for prolonged survival.

In 2004, Roswell Park became the first facility in the Buffalo Niagara region to offer patients the option of robotic prostatectomy. Today Roswell Park offers robot-assisted surgery (RAS) for treatment of bladder, colorectal, gynecologic, head and neck, kidney, and thoracic cancers.
