- Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting
- Chronic pain including neuropathy
- Epilepsy
- HIV/AIDS including associated side effects
- Mental health and mood disorders
- Multiple sclerosis
- Parkinson’s disease
- Palliative care
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Communicating with patients about medical cannabis
- Potential health implications and harms of medical cannabis
- Certifying the patient
- Cultural and demographic-specific treatment
- Medical cannabis research
The individual completing the submission shall be identified as the primary presenter for the duration of the event. All correspondence will be conducted via email and addressed to the primary presenter only. Any changes/replacements of presenters is subject to the review and approval of the Office of Cannabis Management/Roswell Park (OCM/RP).
To be considered, presenters must have professional qualifications in good standing with their professional regulatory board, if applicable, and possess the technical expertise necessary to present on the subject effectively. Presenters:
- must be a healthcare practitioner (e.g. physicians, pharmacists, etc.), researcher, and/or affiliated with a college and/or university (e.g. professor, trainee/student, etc.)
- may not be an employee of an ineligible company (refer to definition of ineligible company below)
- must adhere to the “no pitching” policy (cannot include content on the presenter’s professional background, personal expertise and/or company history)
- should have received specialized graduate or post-graduate level training in the subject of the presentation
- should have demonstrable experience of practical application or research involving subject of the presentation.
An ineligible company is defined, by ACCME, as any entity whose primary business is producing, marketing, selling, re-selling, or distributing healthcare products used by or on patients.
Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) information
Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians. Presentations must be free of commercial influence and meet the criteria for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. This includes:
- Be balanced and have relevance to providers’ practice either through their ability to improve patient care or to provide better systems of health care.
- Be based on topics derived from an assessment of the needs of providers.
- Be formally planned and designed.
- Demonstrate high educational, ethical, and medical standards.
- Include explicit learning objectives.
- Include a participant evaluation method assessing the quality of the program as well as the extent to which it met the stated learning objectives.
- Be free of product-specific advertising, promotional logos, or slogans.
- Meet ACCME’s Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education.
Important note:
Proposals submitted by ineligible companies, as defined by ACCME, and other commercial entities will not be considered. The organizers reserve the right of final approval on all content and may require revisions.
Lecture proposal requirements
The individual completing the submission shall be identified as the primary presenter for the duration of the event. All correspondence will be conducted via email and addressed to the primary presenter only. Be sure to provide the following on each submission:
- Primary presenter’s contact information.
- Co-spresenters’ contact information.
- There is a limit of four (4) presenters per lecture.
- A descriptive title that is expressive of the content.
- A list of 3-5 learning objectives. The learning objectives should take the form of "You will be able to…" followed by bulleted items that illustrate what participants can expect to do following your session. Refer to the “Learning Objective Guidelines” for support.
- A summary highlighting the key concepts of your session and
- should not exceed 400 words
- standard abbreviations may be used but must be spelled out and defined at the first use (put in parentheses immediately after the first mention of a term or phrase).
- Lectures are meant to be educational/informational therefore the content must:
- be supported by evidence-based data from research or demonstrated results
- be balanced and have relevance to medical practice either through improved patient care or to provide better systems of health care
- demonstrate high educational, ethical, and medical standards
- be free of commercial bias, product-specific advertising, promotional logos, slogans.
- Presentations must be twenty (20) minutes in length (no more, no less) followed by five (5) minutes for Q & A. Make sure to practice your presentation to ensure the timing is appropriate and respectful of other presenters.
- If selected, presenters must agree to follow ACCME specific guidelines for creating their presentation and compiling PowerPoint slides.
- The proposal must be submitted in English.
Poster proposal requirements
The individual completing the submission shall be identified as the primary presenter for the duration of the event. All correspondence will be conducted via email and addressed to the primary presenter only. Be sure to provide the following on each submission:
- Primary presenter’s contact information.
- Co-presenters’ contact information.
- There is a limit of two (2) pesenters per poster.
- A descriptive title that is expressive of the content.
- A list of 2-3 learning objectives for posters. The learning objectives should take the form of "You will be able to…" followed by bulleted items that illustrate what participants can expect to do following your session. Refer to the “Learning Objective Guidelines” for support.
- A summary highlighting the key concepts of your session and
- should not exceed 400 words

Presenters who participate in this conference must:

Two time slots will be allocated for poster viewing and discussions within the exhibition area. Presenters should stand next to their posters during these allocated time for informal Q&A. Additional information will be provided to those poster presenters who have been selected to participate. Additional information will be provided to those who are selected to participate.
Poster preparation and display
- The dimensions of the poster should not exceed 42in/105cm high x 96in/240cm wide.
- Allocate the top of the poster for the title and author(s) as stated on the submitted proposal.
- The text, illustrations, etc. should be legible and bold enough to be read from a distance of 2-4 feet.
- Poster panels will be available for the mounting of posters.
- A poster number will be assigned to you but also refer to the program book in case of poster updates.
- Information regarding mounting and dismantling will be provided to those who are selected to participate.
Note: Presenters are responsible for managing their posters. Conference organizers are not responsible for damages and/or missing posters during the event.
Participants want to know in advance what they can expect to come away with from your presentation. Your learner objectives will be used to promote interest in your session and to evaluate the value of your presentation to the attendees.
Measurable learning objectives describe the knowledge, skills and/or attitude participants will gain from the educational activity in a measurable way.
- Determine what you want you want to accomplish in your session by making a list of what you intend for your audience to learn and/or be able to do.
- Write a separate objective for each single key result you anticipate will provide value to the participants (i.e. “The learner will be able to…”).
- Use concrete action verbs (i.e. describe, explain, identify) which allows you to assess if your objectives were met.
- Strive to write SMART objectives:
- Specific — does it specify one single key result?
- Measurable — can a determination be made as to whether the result is achieved?
- Attainable — can the desired result be achieved as a result of the presentation?
- Relevant — is this of interest and of importance to the audience?
- Timely — can it be achieved within a fairly immediate time-frame>
The review committee will evaluate the scientific or medical quality of the submitted proposals based on the following criteria:
- Novelty and originality of the topic
- Significance of the material
- Usefulness, practicality, and vision of concept
- Clarity, quality, and organization of ideas
- Timeliness and relevance of topic
- Presenter's experience and knowledge of the subject matter
- Incomplete proposals will not be reviewed.
Notification
All applicants will be notified of their selection or non-selection via email by August 1, 2024. The notification will be sent to the primary speaker of the proposal.

Acceptance
Presenters who participate in this conference must:
- Provide their curricula vitae
- Complete and sign a financial disclosure form
- Sign a release authorization form
If selected for participation, lecture presenters will receive up to two (2) complimentary registration and poster presenters will receive one (1) complimentary registration. Additional guests are welcome to participate but must pay full registration fee.
Please note stipends and travel reimbursements will not be provided for presenters. They are responsible for all travel, lodging costs, and any preparation related expenses (e.g. printing). Please do not apply if you are unable to attend due to the financial responsibility.
Author Consent and Waiver of Claims
Each proposal author agrees and certifies that they waive any and all claims against Roswell Park and the NYS Office of Cannabis Management, and any review arising out of or relating to the abstract submission and review process, including but not limited to peer review and the grading of abstracts.
