The Department of Indigenous Cancer Health continues to identify opportunities to engage in Indigenous policy-making discussions to create a lasting impact on health and well-being in Indigenous communities. In 2022, Dr. Haring was invited to conversations with the U.S. President’s Office and the Office of the First Lady to elevate conversations about the impact of cancer the department continues to identify opportunities to engage in Indigenous policy-making discussions to create a lasting impact on health and well-being in Indigenous communities.

Dr. Haring and Assistant Director Josie Raphaelito, MPH, both serve on the national Community Cancer Workgroup led by the Indian Health Service (IHS) national offices to work collectively across IHS and other national partners to set goals and drive impact, all while coordinating efforts alongside the Health and Human Services Cancer Moonshot Initiative aimed at addressing disparities in cancer screening and follow-up care. Dr. Haring and Raphaelito continue participating in these various policy platforms and advocating participate in these various policy platforms and advocate for Indigenous peoples in the national fight against cancer.
