Healthy Eating on the Internet: Week 1

Links you should “favorite” during National Nutrition Month

March is National Nutrition Month! The theme of 2014, “Enjoy the Taste of Eating Right” suggests we focus on how to combine taste and nutrition to create healthy meals for our families and ourselves. Finding credible information on the Internet about healthy eating can be overwhelming and time-consuming! Each week during the month of March, we will provide a nutrition link on our blog to help you find reliable advice on how to make healthy eating with nutritious, tasty foods part of your meal planning each day. Every website is unique – check out the weekly links this month and see which one is the right fit for you!

Our first resource comes from The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formally the American Dietetic Association), the world’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals. Their website is called EatRight.org. We'd like to highlight the Food and Nutrition section of their website that includes information on:

  1. Healthy eating tips for kids and adults
  2. How to read food labels
  3. Healthy meal and snack ideas that appeal to all ages
  4. Recipes
  5. Tips for healthy eating on a budget
  6. MyPlate tip sheet for more information on healthy eating strategies

Bonus! Meal planning and cooking meals at home is an important part of healthy eating. Not feeling very confident manning the stove? Click on the How do I? section of the Eat Right website for instructional videos on food preparation techniques.
