About Brian Betts

Biography:

I am familiar with hospitals, partly because I spent a lot of time in them as a child undergoing extensive surgeries, but also because I liked to follow my Dad around when he was a medical student. The environment sparked an interest in being a physician myself.

Being a patient, the experience helps me understand as a physician the unique journeys we all go through as patients. Its comforting to have a doctor that knows what things are like on both sides of the stethoscope. Once I started my medical education, I became enamored with immunology; the cornerstone of transplantation and cell therapy.

Nowadays, my clinical work and research are focused on designing engineered white blood cells to eliminate cancer, transplant complications, and even autoimmune diseases. I am also interested in making stem cell transplantation and cell therapy safer and more effective for patients too.

I’m thrilled to be part of Roswell Park’s cutting-edge cell therapy research program and look forward to future innovation. I wholeheartedly agree with the National Cancer Institute, it’s fantastic to be a member of such an exceptional team at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.
