Roswell Park Cancer Institute has released The Paint Box Project’s 2016 Holiday Line, featuring 13 new designs for customizable holiday cards, gifts, packaging and tableware. As always, pediatric cancer patients and their families design all of the artwork for the items.

Roswell Park Cancer Institute’s annual Tree of Hope lighting ceremony will be held on Friday, Dec. 9, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Kaminski Park and Gardens on the Roswell Park campus.

Roswell Park Cancer Institute physicians and researchers will be among the scientific leaders offering new insights into the causes and treatment of blood disorders during the 58th annual meeting of the American Society of Hematology (ASH) December 3 – 6 in San Diego, California.

A new clinical study underway at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center is the first to test the combination of the immunotherapy pembrolizumab with two other drugs as treatment for recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer, and is also the first ovarian cancer clinical trial to incorporate analysis of patients’ microbiomes — the bacteria present in the human gut and other organs.

Predicting when prostate cancer is aggressive enough to warrant immediate treatment can be a challenge. Researchers at Roswell Park Cancer Institute have found that a particular prostate cancer nomogram accurately predicts the outcomes of prostate cancer patients and is a useful tool for informing treatment decisions. The findings have been published online ahead of print in the Journal of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network.

Melanoma is the fifth most common cancer in the U.S., and often recurs as multiple small tumors of the extremities. While these small tumors, called “in-transit” disease, can be treated through chemotherapy given directly to the affected limb, the standard for this focused or “regional” treatment has not been improved upon for more than 50 years. Preclinical research at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center demonstrates that the new anticancer drug CBL0137 is more effective than standard chemotherapy at killing melanoma tumor cells and was well tolerated in laboratory models. The study has been published online ahead of print in Cancer Research, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.
