Construction Underway Outside Hospital Entrance: What You Need to Know

Front Entrance Circle Construction

What: We will begin to reshape the traffic circle in front of the main entrance to the hospital.

When: July 16, 2018 through September 2018, depending on weather.

What You Need to Know: During this time, Carlton Street will be closed between Elm and North Oak streets. Traffic will be one way on Carlton Street from Michigan Avenue to Elm Street.

  • If you are dropping off a patient, enter Carlton Street from Michigan Avenue and turn left onto Elm Street, where you will see signs for the drop-off location. You will not be able to enter the traffic circle in front of the hospital. Extra staff will be available to assist you. If you plan to park in the parking garage, after dropping the patient off, you will need to go around the block and enter the parking garage from Carlton.
If you are picking up a patient, head west on Carlton (from either Michigan Avenue or the main parking garage exit), then take an immediate left on Elm, and follow the signs for the pickup point.
  • If you plan to use the valet service, enter Carlton Street from Michigan Avenue and follow the signs for valet parking, located along Carlton Street. You will not be able to drive into the traffic circle in front of the hospital.
Just before you leave the hospital, stop at the Valet Concierge station outside the gift shop. You’ll be given a buzzer that will alert you when your car is ready. When the buzzer goes off, head out to the valet pick-up tent on Elm Street, turn in your buzzer and pick up your car.
  • If you are using the Parking Ramp and walking across the street, it’s best to avoid the construction site as much as possible, especially if you are immunocompromised. Please take the elevator in the ramp to the third floor and use the bridge to cross over to the Main. Or, use the crosswalk located at the traffic light at the corner of Carlton and Michigan Streets, connecting to the Scott Bieler Clinical Sciences Center. This building connects indoors to the Main Hospital.

To help things run safely and smoothly during construction, we have hired additional valets. Crosswalk guards and other staff will also be on hand to assist you. Wheelchairs will be available in the parking garage and at the main entrance to the hospital.

For your safety, please cross the street only at the crosswalks and follow the instructions of our patient safety coordinators.

Your safety and convenience are our first priority. If at any time you need help getting to or from your vehicle, look for staff in the brightly colored vests or call 716-845-5718.
