New Roles for Both Established and Emerging Leaders at Roswell Park

BUFFALO, N.Y. — As 2020 draws to a close, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center announces the hiring or promotion of leaders across numerous clinical, research and administrative departments. Recently appointed staff include newly named vice presidents, chiefs, a new department chair and additional roles in value-based care and genetics.

Stephen Edge, MD, FACS, FASCO
Dr. Stephen Edge

Stephen Edge, MD, FACS, FASCO, Named Vice President for System Quality and Outcomes
Previously Vice President of Healthcare Outcomes and Policy, Dr. Edge in this expanded role will work to optimize care coordination and quality for the benefit of patients throughout Roswell Park and the Roswell Park Care Network. Dr. Edge continues his clinical work in breast surgery and his leadership of Roswell Park’s Oncology Pathways Program.


David Donovan

David Donovan Named to New Role of Vice President for Strategy Planning and Materials Management
Since joining the Roswell Park team in 2015, Donovan has provided oversight and strategic leadership in areas including supply chain management and collaborative partnerships. In this critical new role, he will lead several initiatives supporting outstanding clinical care.


David Tear
David Tear

David Tear, MBA, Promoted to Vice President of the Roswell Park Care Network
Tear, who previously served in roles involving both business development and ambulatory services, will now oversee the most expansive community cancer, supportive and specialized care affiliation in the region. The Roswell Park Care Network brings cancer care to patients in their own communities, and Tear will work to align the operations of this network of community partnerships and affiliates under a shared vision.


Steven Hochwald, MD, FACS
Dr. Steven Hochwald

Steven Hochwald, MD, MBA, FACS, Promoted to Chief of Perioperative Services
On staff at Roswell Park since 2012, Dr. Hochwald will now oversee all surgical and endoscopic procedures at the cancer center. He will oversee quality assurance across perioperative services, streamlining patient care and access. Dr. Hochwald remains Vice Chair of Surgical Oncology and Chief of Gastrointestinal Surgery.


Sunita Manuballa, DDS
Dr. Sunita Manuballa

Sunita Manuballa, DDS, Named Chief of Dentistry and Maxillofacial Prosthetics (DMFP)
Dr. Manuballa, a clinical physician, was elevated to this leadership role in recognition of the outstanding dental and oral health care she has provided to cancer patients. As Chief, she will oversee all clinical activities within the Department of Dentistry and Maxillofacial Prosthetics, and closely collaborate with medical and surgical services at Roswell Park. She continues to serve as program director of the General Practice Residency program.


Dr. Elizabeth Repasky

Elizabeth Repasky, PhD, Named Interim Chief of Immunology
Currently the Dr. William Huebsch Professor of Immunology, Dr. Repasky has been appointed Interim Chief of Immunology, succeeding Dr. Kelvin Lee. A 37-year Roswell Park employee, Dr. Repasky has received numerous awards for her work as an educator and mentor, and her groundbreaking research into the impact of body temperature and thermal stress on immunotherapy has led to clinical trials at the cancer center.


Kai Fu, MD

Kai Fu, MD, PhD, Heads Hematopathology Division of the Department of Pathology
A physician/scientist, Dr. Fu joins Roswell Park after 16 years with the University of Nebraska Medical Center. As Chief, he will guide a team of board-certified hematopathologists investigating diseases affecting or found in blood cells, including leukemias and lymphomas. As a mentor and team leader, Dr. Fu will assist faculty in clinical, translational and basic scientific research. Dr. Fu received his medical degree from the Tianjin Medical University in China and his PhD from the University of Kansas Medical Center.


Sara Randolph

Sara Randolph Named Executive Director of Health Plan Partnerships and Value Based Care
With Roswell Park since 2014, Sara Randolph brings advanced knowledge of payer contracts and strong relationships with local, regional and national health care plans to this new role. Most recently Director of Payer Relations, she will continue to encourage innovative and dynamic program development and collaborations with payers.


Joseph Maher, MD
Dr. Joseph Maher

Joseph Maher, MD, Joins Roswell Park as Director of Clinical Genetics
Dr. Maher comes to Buffalo after a tenure at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he most recently served as Director of the Division of Medical Genetics and Precision Medicine. Working with our genetic counselors and clinical teams, he will expand Roswell Park’s Clinical Genetics program in traditional single-gene disorders such as BRCA1/BRCA2-related breast and ovarian cancers and, through his research, examine the impact of genetics on cancer treatment and prevention. Dr. Maher is currently working on two National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded grants.
