The Division of Critical Care provides continuous 24/7/365 staffing to care for each acutely ill Roswell Park patient. We provide acute care, including respiratory and cardiovascular interventions, that occur as a result of a cancer diagnosis, treatment or underlying medical conditions.

A physician with Critical Care experience is always on-duty, 24/7/365, to care for critically ill Roswell Park patients.

The Critical Care team consists of physicians with expertise in Critical Care Medicine, advanced practice practitioners (APPs) and nurses dedicated to cancer patients. The Critical Care team is available 24/7/365 to assess any Roswell Park patient for admission to a Critical Care unit. Our services are based primarily on the 8th floor of the Main Hospital in these Critical Care units:

  • Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a 14-bed unit providing advanced life-sustaining therapies for all critically ill medical and surgical patients.
  • Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) is a 14-bed unit providing acute care for medical and surgical patients requiring additional monitoring and medical management.

The ICU and IMCU at Roswell Park are the only specialized units led by physicians, APPs and nurses focused solely on Oncologic Critical Care in Western New York.

Our mission

The Division of Critical Care is committed to continuous 24/7/365 staffing to care for each acutely ill patient. We hold our physicians, advanced practice practitioners and nurses to the highest standards of professionalism and altruism. We are guided by the latest evidence-based best practice in Oncologic Critical Care.

We work collaboratively with our medical and surgical oncologic colleagues. We seek opportunities to contribute to research initiatives to better understand and treat cancer. We will serve as stewards of our resources for the benefit of our patients and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.
