Viewing and creating art is medically acknowledged as a viable way to balance physical, psychological and spiritual well-being.

Through several art programs, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center recognizes and embraces the transformative healing potential of visual art with on-site opportunities for aesthetic engagement and realization of your individual imagination.

In our dedicated gallery and studio, and with paintings mounted on the walls of Roswell Park clinics, corridors, treatment and patient rooms and visitor areas, we celebrate the healing power of creativity and support successful navigation of your cancer journey from diagnosis to survivorship with visual art.

"I think art helps you take the first step toward hope, and it takes a first step because, guess what? The first step in a long healing journey is in your mind."

The Roswell Park Creative Arts Team helps inpatients, outpatients, family members and caregivers explore healing benefits of visual creativity. From classes in our Art Heals Gallery, to Patient Art Cart that patients throughout the hospital can take advantage of, our three artists-in-residence help patients to expand their creativity while providing a welcome space to clear their minds.

Drop-in aesthetic inspiration and artistic guidance are available in the Small Studio, located inside the Art Heals Gallery. Outpatients, family members and caregivers can check the Patient Calendar on the Roswell Park website to learn about scheduled activities, which include painting, drawing, collage, printmaking, small sculpture, bookmaking – and accommodation for most special requests.

The Small Studio is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"We are lucky to have a lot beautiful pieces of art lining the halls and clinical spaces here at Roswell Park . Art reminds us that healing is not only physical — it is emotional, spiritual, and deeply human."
