Roswell Park’s Community Alliance to Reach, Empower, and Sustain (CARES) program has awarded $50,000 in grants to five local organizations for innovative, community-driven projects aimed at reducing cancer risk and enhancing the quality of life for patients, survivors and caregivers.

Led by a faculty leader at Roswell Park, an international team of experts has identified a genetic condition that raises the risk of developing two rare pediatric cancers — Wilms tumor and pineoblastoma. Their findings appear today in Clinical Cancer Research, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.

Today, on a call with officials from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, nurses from teams across Roswell Park learned that they earned Magnet® Recognition for nursing excellence. The designation follows an in-depth review, and signifies that Roswell Park nurses have met stringent standards for nursing excellence in patient care delivery.

The GVHD Alliance honored Shernan Holtan, MD, Chief of Blood and Marrow Transplantation at Roswell Park, with the 2025 Lukas D. Wartman Award. The recognition acknowledges Dr. Holtan’s contributions to improving outcomes for patients battling graft-versus-host disease, a common complication of blood stem cell transplantation.

The Roswell Park Alliance Foundation is proud to announce the hiring of Kate Kaming into a newly created role for the organization. Kaming will serve as the Vice President for Development for the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation and the Senior Executive Director for Grateful Patient Philanthropy for Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.
