Roswell Park nurses achieved Magnet® Recognition, the highest national honor for professional nurses

Nursing Magnet Recognition Badge

As any cancer patient knows, it’s the nurses who provide much of the hands on, day-to-day care of delivering cancer treatment. That’s why this distinction — Magnet® Recognition for Nursing Excellence — is so important. Only about 10% of U.S. hospitals have achieved Magnet recognition.

The Magnet distinction, from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, recognizes quality patient care and innovations in professional nursing practice, providing the ultimate benchmark for consumers to measure the care they expect to receive. Research shows that Magnet-recognized organizations demonstrate better patient outcomes and higher patient satisfaction.

“When patients see that designation, they will know that this is an exceptional place,” says clinical nurse manager Kelly Englert, MS, RN, OCN. “It lets them know that when they walk through these doors, they are going to be getting the best care. It acknowledges the good nurses do for their patients, for the institution and for each other.”

To earn Magnet recognition, Roswell Park demonstrated and documented excellence in nursing that reflects:

  • Leaders who transform their organization’s values, beliefs and behaviors, putting the patient at the center.
  • An organizational structure that empowers staff to achieve patient outcome goals and better address their community’s needs.
  • Exemplary professional practice where patients have fewer hospital acquired conditions like in infections and injuries.
  • A commitment to discovering new knowledge, innovations and quality improvements; placing a value on nursing research, continuing education and shared governance.

“Roswell Park nurses set the benchmark for excellence in nursing, and this prestigious designation highlights how our team continues to stand out among the best in the nation,” says Andrew Storer, PhD, DNP, RN, NP-C, FAANP, Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer. “We are all focused on our mission; it’s why we’re here. We live it every day.”
