Dr. Haring is Co-Principal Investigator (along with Karen H. Kim Yeary, PhD) on a project titled “A novel sugar sweetened beverage reduction intervention for Native American men” funded by the National institutes of Health. The Department of Indigenous Cancer Health is working with an Indigenous not-for- profit athletic club that specializes in Indigenous athletics, including lacrosse. The project adapted an evidence-based sugar sweetened beverage program for Native Americans to encourage male participation in cancer prevention, returning to ancestral beverage consumption, and is working with a community-based athletic organization to recruit, retain and intervene on behalf of Indigenous community members. The project is implemented both virtually and in-person.
