The stage of your uterine sarcoma is an assessment of how much cancer is in the body.
Stage 1 uterine sarcoma
Uterine sarcomas that are classified as stage 1 are small tumors confined to the uterus. Substages identify the size of the tumor:
- Stage 1A tumors are 5 centimeters (cm) or smaller
- Stage 2A tumors are larger than 5 cm
Stage 2 uterine sarcoma
Cancers that are stage 2 have spread beyond the uterus but not beyond the pelvis. Substages identify the areas of spread:
- Stage 2A means the cancer has spread to the ovaries or fallopian tubes
- Stage 2B means the cancer has spread to other pelvic tissues
Stage 3 uterine sarcoma
Cancers that are stage 3 have spread to organs in the abdomen or lymph nodes. Substages identify these areas:
- Stage 3A cancers have spread into one area of the abdomen
- Stage 3B cancers have spread into two areas of the abdomen
- Stage 3C means cancer has been found in nearby lymph nodes
Stage 4 uterine sarcoma
Cancers that are classified as stage 4 are advanced cancers that have spread to other organs such as the bladder or rectum, or distant body areas. Substages identify these locations:
- Stage 4A means the cancer has spread to the bladder or rectum
- Stage 4B means cancer cells have metastasized to distant areas, such as the lungs
