An experienced executive with a passion for serving cancer patients and exceptional strategic leadership skills has rejoined the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center team. Roswell Park President and CEO Candace S. Johnson, PhD, has recruited Jeff Walker, MBA, back to Western New York to fill the new role of Executive Vice President of Operations and Transformation for the National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center.

Living with a genetic disorder that calls for regular monitoring, appropriate treatment and emotional support calls for a multidisciplinary team that works together to coordinate patient care. Those diagnosed with von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease have a resource for that complete and coordinated care in Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, which was recently named a VHL Clinical Care Center by the VHL Alliance.

A research team headed by epidemiologist Zhihong Gong, PhD, has been awarded a five-year, $1.9 million grant from the National Cancer Institute for an investigation into the role that certain genetic molecules play in the disparities seen between Black people and white people with breast cancer.

With new COVID-19 case totals in Erie County declining four weeks in a row and the majority of its staff now vaccinated, Roswell Park Comprehensive Center is once again able to allow inpatient visitation on a limited basis.

New study finds more than half (56.4%) of cancer survivors in the United States reported having additional underlying medical conditions associated with severe COVID-19 illness. The report appearing in JNCI: The Journal of the National Cancer Institute, suggests that prevalence of these conditions among cancer survivors is nearly 40% higher than that in the general population.
