A new collaboration between two Western New York cancer research leaders will help oncologists learn whether Black and white cancer patients respond differently to a game-changing immunotherapy treatment, and seeks to improve the safety and effectiveness of these newer drugs in diverse populations.

Recognizing her passionate advocacy on behalf of patients with a rare gastrointestinal cancer, the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation (CCF) has presented its Mark R. Clements Award to Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center medical oncologist Renuka Iyer, MD.

That team model shaped an ambitious redesign now underway at the 12,600-square-foot ambulatory care center on the third floor of Roswell Park’s main hospital.

Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center has once again been named a Center of Excellence (COE) for pediatric and adult populations by health services leader Optum for providing quality treatment for cancer patients. It is the only such designated center in Western and Upstate New York.

Recognized by the families she serves as kindhearted and compassionate, Reverend Melody Rutherford, M.Div., MS, has been named Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Director of Spiritual Care following a national search.

Paving the way for continued growth of Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Department of Dermatology, Gyorgy Paragh, MD, PhD, has been promoted to head the department, and has been named the Lawrence P. & Joan Castellani Family Chair in Dermatology.
