One of only 38 institutions in the country designated by the health services leader
- Roswell Park is the only center to hold the distinction across Upstate NY
- Designation is based on rigorous evaluation process
- Criteria include clinical expertise, patient outcomes and quality of care
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Health services leader Optum has once again named Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center a Center of Excellence (COE) for both adult and pediatric cancer treatment. Roswell Park is one of only 38 institutions in the nation awarded this designation, and the only one in Western and Upstate New York.
To be eligible for Optum’s Cancer Centers of Excellence Network, centers undergo a rigorous evaluation process conducted by Optum’s Clinical Sciences Institute to ensure it meets specific criteria. The evaluation includes assessing factors like clinical expertise, patient outcomes and quality of care.
“Center of Excellence designation from Optum recognizes Roswell Park’s place among a select group of top-performing cancer centers nationwide, and it speaks to the high standards we set for quality, safety, patient experience and overall excellence,” says Julia Faller, DO, MS, Roswell Park’s Chief Medical Officer. “We’re proud to deliver a level of care that earns national distinction and, more importantly, makes a real difference for the patients and families we serve.”
Dr. Faller also notes the importance of having a center with this designation in the Western New York community. Roswell Park is one of only two New York State cancer centers recognized by Optum.
Roswell Park holds two other current designations from Optum based on the quality of its care and services. In 2025, Roswell Park was named an Optum Center of Excellence for both its adult and pediatric stem cell transplant programs.
