Castle Connolly Names Roswell Park to 2026 Top Hospital List

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Research and information leader Castle Connolly has named Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center to its 2026 Top Hospitals list for the cancer surgery and general surgery specialties, including honors for lung cancer surgery and colon surgery. This recognition is based on the same physician-led research behind their prestigious Top Doctor recognition, combining peer input with comprehensive patient data and performance metrics.

The list recognizes 1,663 Top Hospitals for their overall excellence and strong performance in 6 specialties and 19 procedures. Those specialties include cancer surgery, heart & vascular surgery, general surgery, obstetrics & gynecological surgery, orthopedic, and urologic surgery. 

Roswell Park is the only nationally ranked center for cancer surgery, specifically lung cancer surgery, in Western New York. Castle Connolly also recognized the center for general surgery, noting its colon surgery.

Hospitals are selected through a rigorous process that uses data to analyze the patient journey while undergoing care, including pre- and post-procedure. Castle Connolly’s performance metrics include mortality rate, complication rate, Patient Safety Indicator (PSI90) and Failure to Rescue (FTR).

Castle Connolly also factors in the number of Top Doctors within the specialty area for the measured procedure. They incorporate physician expertise through hospital nominations.
