Roswell Park’s Intensive Care Unit Earns Second Beacon Award for Excellence

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Intensive Care Unit has once again received a Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN). This is the second consecutive year the unit has received the honor, which recognizes high-quality, patient-centered care for acutely ill patients. The Roswell Park ICU team was recognized this year with at the Silver level.

The Beacon Award for Excellence recognizes individual nursing units, as opposed to whole hospitals and facilities, that consistently improve outcomes and align their practices with AACN’s six Healthy Work Environment Standards. Units meet rigorous criteria in the following areas: leadership structures and systems, appropriate staffing and staff engagement, effective communication, knowledge management, learning and development, evidence-based practices and outcomes measurement.
