- Center’s rectal cancer program receives NAPRC accreditation
- Requires rigorous quality and safety standards and on-site visit by NAPRC
- Only centers that perform high volume of rectal cancer surgeries are eligible
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center is pleased to announce the recent accreditation of its rectal cancer program by the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC). This distinction signifies that Roswell Park meets the highest national standards in the surgical care of people with rectal cancer and is recognized as an American College of Surgeons (ACS) Surgical Quality Partner.
To earn accreditation, hospitals must meet rigorous quality and safety standards and host an on-site visit by NAPRC reviewers. Programs must have a high volume of cancer surgical resections during the most recent calendar year and demonstrate 12 months of compliance with NAPRC standards.
“Earning NAPRC accreditation is a significant milestone that reaffirms Roswell Park’s leadership in providing world-class care for patients with rectal cancer,” says Anthony Dakwar, MD, FACS, FASCRS, Medical Director of Perioperative Services at Roswell Park. “This designation reflects the exceptional collaboration among our surgical, medical, and radiation oncology teams and our ongoing commitment to delivering evidence-based, multidisciplinary care that improves outcomes and quality of life for our patients.”
"ACS Quality programs are grounded in more than a century of experience and participation is an important measure of a hospital’s surgical quality,” says ACS Executive Director & Chief Executive Officer Patricia L. Turner, MD, MBA, FACS. “As an ACS Surgical Quality Partner, Roswell Park has shown a commitment to providing the best possible patient care, evaluating that care in a rigorous fashion, and dedicating themselves to continuous self-improvement."
A center of excellence for colon and rectal cancer care, Roswell Park offers surgical expertise and cutting-edge therapies at the forefront of cancer care. More than 90% of colorectal operations at Roswell Park are performed with robot assistance, resulting in shorter hospital stays and faster recoveries. Experts provide advanced endoscopic procedures that may allow patients to avoid major operations and permanent colostomies.
