Doctors join cancer center with expertise in surgical and medical oncology, pathology, dermatology, anesthesia

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center is pleased to announce the hiring of eight new faculty members in seven different departments across the organization.These individuals bring years of experience to key areas of cancer treatment, detection and effective diagnosis to Roswell Park’s mission to improve lives through outstanding cancer care and services.
“We welcome our newest physicians, who represent some of the best-trained and most innovative clinical professionals working in oncology,” says Julia Faller, DO, MS, Chief Medical Officer at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. “Through their talent, passion and compassion, these dedicated professionals will help Roswell Park to advance the forefront of cancer care.”
Ankit Patel, MD , Physician and Assistant Professor of Oncology, Department of Surgical Oncology. Dr Patel joins Roswell Park from Rochester Regional Health where he had a complex general surgical oncology practice. His education background includes Rutgers University, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and the University of Rochester School of Medicine. He specializes in soft tissue malignancies, peritoneal surface malignancies, and HIPEC (hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy).
Shilpa Chowdhry, MD, Physician and Assistant Professor of Oncology, Department of Anesthesiology. Dr. Chowdhry comes from the Buffalo VA Medical Center. Her education background includes New York University School of Medicine and University at Buffalo. She is an internist with fellowship training in geriatrics and palliative medicine.
Oday Karadsheh, MD, Physician, Assistant Professor of Oncology and Director of the Endocrinology Division, Department of Internal Medicine. Dr. Karadsheh joins Roswell Park from Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center. His education background includes Jordan University and the University of Buffalo.
Mark Frattini, MD, PhD, Senior Vice President, Clinical Research; Associate Director, Clinical Investigation, and Professor of Oncology, Department of Medicine. Dr. Frattini joins Roswell Park from Cellectis Inc., a biotech company focused on CAR T-cell cancer therapies, where he was Chief Medical Officer. Prior to that, he held the position of Executive Medical Director at Celgene/Bristol-Myers Squibb, where he oversaw the program that gained FDA approval for relapsed AML patients with IDH2 mutations, and his past academic roles include positions with Columbia University Medical Center where he was Director of Research for hematologic malignancies, Weill Cornell Medical College, and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. His education background includes Washington University, the University of Chicago, and Johns Hopkins University.
Claudiu Cotta, MD, PhD, Vice Chair of Hematopathology, Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. Dr. Cotta joins Roswell Park from the Cleveland Clinic, where he spent 17 years. His education background includes the University of Alabama at Birgmingham and the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Targu-Mures, Romania.
Majed Refaai, MD, Physician in Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. Dr. Refaai joins Roswell Park from the University of Rochester where he was a professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. His education background includes UT Southwestern Medical Center and Washington University in St. Louis.
Cerrene Giordano, MD, Physician and Associate Professor of Oncology, Department of Dermatology. A Western New York native, Dr. Giordano joins Roswell Park from the University at Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Prior to that, she attended Canisius College and the University at Buffalo’s Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. During that time she did research at Roswell Park. She specializes in Mohs micrographic surgery and reconstruction of skin cancer wounds.
Weining Ma, MD, Physician and Associate Professor of Oncology, Department of Diagnostic Radiology. Dr. Ma joins Roswell Park from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), where she spent over 20 years. While there, she was a member of the Body Imaging Service and Gynecological Disease Management Team. Prior to that she completed her fellowships in both body and breast imaging at MSKCC.
