BUFFALO, N.Y. — A shining beacon of care, warmth and hope to the patients and families who encounter her, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Kimberly Sweeney, MBA, RN, has been appointed Vice President of Patient Care Experience.

Spanning a nearly two-and-a-half-decade tenure at Roswell Park, Sweeney has worn many hats — starting with nursing. For years, she worked bedside with patients undergoing bone marrow transplants as well as high-dose chemotherapy in leukemia and lymphoma care. She navigated her way to a role as leukemia research nurse coordinator and spent time in case management and patient access. Most recently, she served as Senior Executive Director of Medical Concierge, a service created under her leadership.

In this newly created role, Sweeney will collaborate extensively with hospital leadership to research, develop, implement and support initiatives to improve patient and caregiver experiences across the center. She will oversee all aspects of Patient Advocacy and Patient Access and continue to guide critical and supportive Roswell Park services such as the 11 Day Power Play Cancer Resource Center, Elevate Salon, Courage of Carly Fund and Medical Concierge.

“Kim Sweeney continues to exemplify selfless leadership and mentorship for her colleagues, patients and our community,” says Candace S. Johnson, PhD, President, CEO and M&T Bank Presidential Chair in Leadership at Roswell Park. “Her countless years of experience in many different areas of patient care and services, along with her insights on ways each team member can use moments big and small to demonstrate to our patients our commitment to them, make her wonderfully equipped to fulfill this role.”

Sweeney earned her MBA from Medaille University and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University at Buffalo.
