BUFFALO, N.Y. — Create a vision board, set out the yoga mat or learn a few new healthy cooking techniques — all from the comfort of your living room. Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center is going virtual for Chapter 2: A Cancer Survivor’s Workshop for Living Your Best Life, taking place September 11 and 12.

Typically an in-person event on the Roswell Park campus, the popular gathering was moved online due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Chapter 2 is free and open to all cancer patients, survivors and caregivers and features in-depth discussions with Roswell Park experts to provide attendees with strategies and tools to help them manage the physical, spiritual and psychological challenges they may be facing.

Friday evening sessions run from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and include breakout sessions on laughter yoga, body image, spirituality and mindfulness. Chapter 2 continues Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. with gentle yoga and additional breakout sessions on coping and connection, mental health, sexuality and intimacy, and medical marijuana.

Brand-new to the programming this year is an interactive cooking experience featuring Chef Jon Diati of Buffalo restaurant Osteria 166 and Roswell Park Clinical Dietitian Sara Jank. Participants will receive a recipe list ahead of time and are encouraged to cook alongside the team Friday evening as they answer questions about nutrition and more.

“Especially with all the challenges this year has brought, it’s so important to give your body, mind and spirit a chance to recharge,”  says Mary Reid, PhD, MSPH, Director of Cancer Screening and Survivorship at Roswell Park. “We’re excited about the virtual format, because it opened the door to new opportunities for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers to connect — with each other and with experts who can help them navigate the place they’re at in their journeys.”

Advance registration at link below is required. Every registrant will receive video links after the event is concluded so they can revisit sessions and replay content from Chapter 2 on demand, at their convenience.
